The top candidate for the GOP nomination for the 19th Congressional District, Nan Hayworth, has been so unimpressive that sources tell me the National Republican Congressional Committee [NRCC] has all but given up on the race. Nan Hayworth is vying for the GOP nomination in the race for the 19th Congressional District in New York. The seat, once held by Republican Sue Kelly until 2007 -- now held by former rock star John Hall -- is considered highly winnable with the growing push-back against the Obama Administration.
The NRCC sees Hayworth as a tremendously unimpressive and uninspiring candidate who has not warmed to local party support and is considered too liberal to get the grassroots base excited. The NRCC is now realizing that she was really only taken into consideration because of her wealth and not her ability to network throughout the district...
The NRCC, which had been very optimistic about GOP chances in New York is disappointed with the state and will begin to focus on other districts across the country. Unless a better candidate steps forward immediately and shows an ability to build true party support, the New York GOP will flounder in a year where congressional wins are expected everywhere.
UPDATE: The Hayworth campaign counters this sources claim and says recent endorsements should lock up her support within the party.

This is pathetic. Assemblyman Greg Ball was originally going for this seat, but then mysteriously switched horses midstream and decided to run a Republican primary against Senator Vince Leibell. Had he remained in the race, he probably could have beaten Hall. Now this Sue Kelly protege will likely lose in November.
We should be targeting a number of races throughout the state, but our candidate recruitment stinks. Aside from Long Island - where there are a host of quality candidates looking to oust Tim Bishop in Suffolk, and where Frank Scaturro is taking on Carolyn McCarthy, the rest of the vulnerable Dems either have second tier challengers or no challengers at all.
For example. in NY-20 (the Gillibrand/Murphy seat). We barely lost in a special election. In November, we could pick this seat up in a good climate for conservatives. But to date, not one top flight Republican has committed to the race.
Are New York Republicans afraid of success?

Danny, your info on this race is probably coming from some disgruntled insider looking to use you to spread disinformation to undermine Nan.
In fact, the NRCC is about to list her as a top contender and she is getting local endorsements on a regular basis.
I've met her on numerous occasions and seen her speak publicly. She is very impressive and charming. Yes, she is cut from the Sue Kelly mold, which is perfect for this district and exactly what we need more of in the Republican Party.
She is a hardcore fiscal conservative and very strong on defense and Israel. She is somewhat of a social moderate, which is what you need in this district and what we need to attract to the party to be a big-tent party.
Yes, she has some money, but she is earning this endorsement on the merits. I say - Go Nan!!

Here is the latest release from the Hayworth campaign:
Hayworth Picks Up Slew of

Town Supervisors Sweeton, Fornario, Quigley;
Assemblywoman Calhoun, Former GOP Vice-Chair Wolfe;
Highlands and Wawayanda GOP Committees;

(Mt. Kisco)--Republican Congressional hopeful Nan Hayworth announced today that she has received several endorsements from public officials, Committees and GOP leaders in Orange County.
Those endorsing Hayworth the first week of February include Town Supervisors Mike Sweeton, (Warwick), Frank Fornario (Blooming Grove) and Kevin Quigley (Cornwall); Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun; Former GOP Vice-Chairwoman Joan Wolfe; State Committeeman and former Cornwall GOP Chairman Merl Hutto; County Legislators Al Buckbee and Dan Depew; Highland Falls Mayor Joe D'Onofrio; Wawayanda GOP Chairman Rich Onorati; Highlands GOP Chairman Jim DiSalvo; Wawayanda Committeeman and prominent business leader Seth Arluck. GOP Committees in Highlands and Wawayanda also announced they have unanimously endorsed Hayworth.
"I am honored that so many in Orange County have come forward to offer their support and endorsement," said Hayworth. "At a time when we need to reduce the deficit, restrain federal spending, and reduce taxes to stimulate the private sector and create new jobs, it is gratifying to know that so many are willing to join this crusade to change the disastrous course of the current Congress."

I disagree with you Robert, I don't think Danny would make such inflammatory statements if he wasn't sure that it was coming from a reliable source.

Scurrilous, unsourced BS is just that:

Hayworth is now a contender. What say you, Peterson?

Having contributed to Greg Ball's congressional race, I now discover that he has abandoned his efforts without explanation to me or his other gullible contributors, and is now seeking to unseat an incumbent GOP State Senator in a primary. What me worry, Greg?
To compound the chaos, I receive a verbose, poorly drafted, and incoherent brochure from Dr. Nan Hayworth announcing she's now running for the congressional seat. I don't know Hayworth, but she clearly can't write a plain sentence in the English language.
My conclusion: the New York GOP is its own worst enemy. Where do we dredge up these closet cases who mislead their own base?
