When will the city council find something constructive to do already???!!
"Hopefully, it will prevent the brownouts and the blackouts," said Councilwoman Gale Brewer (D-Manhattan), who sponsored the bill. "If we are serious about our planet, this is just one small way that you can contribute."
Hopefully?
I think the best way to "prevent the brownouts and blackouts" is for councilmembers and other elected officials, including the Mayor, to hold Con Ed accountable for their horrendous performance to date for NYC electric consumers. this is not the best way to do anything except scare more business activity away from NYC small businesses.
If the council can justify going down this slipperly slope, what's next? Ticketing businesses for not shutting thier lights off when no one's using them? Or telling them to hand wash dishes instead of using dishwashing machines? Or how about making businesses use manual cash registers, not electric ones?
It's amazing that a group of people as brazen as those on the council, who collectively have less real business experience than most average New Yorkers, could continue to find new and ever-more-pointless ways of wasting thier time.
Wouldn't the City be better served by having those elected to serve us find ways of reducing the budget in this time of fiscal crisis? Legislation like this can only hurt the city's economy, which will make our budget situation even worse than it is today.
And to justify the new bill with it's prime sponsor saying "hopefully" this will help just makes the council's effort that much more laughable.
As a NY Post editorial put it this morning...
"So it'd be of great interest whether they might fulfill the same carbon-cutting agenda simply by shutting their mouths once in a while."
Ah the voice of reason....doubtful the council will listen....
