Instead of trying to inspire my fellow republicans with all the oppotunities that lie ahead for us, I'd rather leave it to someone far more inspirational than myself to get you revved up for what lies ahead. Let's GOOOOOO!!
It's back. The Urban Elephants weekly caption contest. Best caption posted by the end of the week will be picked by th editorial staff and given 2 points in our running contest. Runner-up will get 1 point. Go to it gang.

We're hoping to bring back the Photo Contest on Urban Elephants. This isn't really the start of a new caption contest, but when I took a trip to Philly this week, I saw these words and had to take a photo. It's a truck, taking some waste somewhere. Thought it may be suitable with the recent decisions made with our municipal government. So start captioning...

The current financial crisis is so massive and complex that it offers little opportunity for the kinds of easy explanations a column like this is meant for. Nevertheless, I'm going to give it a try. Our natural tendency is to look for quick and easy answers to our troubles and, of course, someone to blame. All those "greedy" Wall Streeters who did so well for so long at our expense and, of course, the president. Well, some of us gave George Bush credit for the good years during most of his administration so it's only fitting we blame him now for the current downturn, right? If you listened to his critics (Democrats and most of the media) things have been terrible all along anyway so this is only more of the same. But if so, why do things look worse now?

Barack Obama's denials are starting to add up...and McCain needs to keep them on the tip of his tongue tonight.
First it was his pastor of 20 years, Rev. Wright. Then it was his incomplete understanding of the ties of his campaign's finance chair, Penny Pritzker, to the sub-prime lending mess and the fact that she's one of the wealthiest people in the United States - someone who benefited directly from the Savings and Loan Bailout two decades ago. Followed by his denials of knowing about one of his central VP selection advisor's, James Johnson's, connection to more than $7 million in sweetheart mortgage deals from Countrywide Financial Corp and his lack of understanding about the central role Eric Holder, another VP selection advisor, played in the questionable pardon of Marc Rich. And now he's denying any knowledge of the controversial past of a longtime supporter, domestic terrorist William Ayers.

Reporting indicates that a "deal" has been essentially crafted for the Wall Street, so-called "Bailout." Although this type of statement has been made before - without leading to an actual piece of legislation, it seems that the compromises being discussed would seem to be enough to please all sides.
In my view, this proposal could cause damage in the markets tomorrow. This plan would reduce the original plan, which was a fast, simple injection of $700 billion for bad debts and over-valued assets to keep our credit market functioning, to a complicated and nuanced piece of...

The Posts's Fred Dicker has an "exclusive" today on forthcoming poll results that show the race is actually tightening in New York State, largely attributed to New York women supporting Sarah Palin.
