How to bleed the unions.

Over this past election I kept reading little tidbits about how this or that union was spending this or that this election cycle. The AFL-CIO budgeted 250 million.  The SEIU budgeted 85 million. Which got me to thinking why aren't we being proactive in peeling away membership.

I propose that the GOP find, target and recruit republican union members to go rouge and form thier own unions.  I know the thought is as absurd as it gets. Yet it is just the sort of action the democrats would never see coming.

Taking the SEIU as an example. They claim to have a membership base of two million. For everyone one percent of that membership that joins the rogue republican union we removeat  sixty-five million dollars in union dues from thier liberal union.  That is just assuming they pay only 1% of gross. I know some locals that pay up to 1.7%.

12% of union members identify as republican and yet every election cycle their political ideology isn't being supported by their union. Why aren't we tapping into that frustration they must be feeling. Who would better understand how the liberal leadership of these unions is ruining the auto and health care industries in this country than republican union members.

Just image the how lame we could make liberal union aparatas if 1.8 million people stopped funding it?

You'll get a kick out of the above site, CH. It addresses the issues you bring up.

Unfortunately for the country, and for the blue-collar workforce, the Democrats are about to change the manner in which workers get to choose whether or not they are unionized or not. The oddly-named Employee Free Choice Act will be passed by Congress and signed into law by Obama.

This will lead to an INCREASE in the number of unionized workers who pay dues that get used for political purposes - often against the will and ideology of the worker themselves.

It's a scary thought and one that liberty loving people should be ready to fight....

I'll believe that card check change when I see the president's hands. I know some people want to see it happen but I just don't think there is a will in Congress to pass it.

Not to mention until the Democrats get 60 votes in the Senate this is non-starter.

The Democrats, with a victory in Alaska, Georgia and Minnesota, will have the 60 votes they need to overcome a filibuster. If that's the case, the Act will pass...

I'm going to assume Georgia is a safe seat now that the democrat doesn't have Obama's coat tails to ride on. Not to mention the republicans in the state are boud to be scared witless by the notion they almosted allowed the seat to go donkey.

I think Minnesota is safe also. Last I saw the difference was around 200 in our favor. The one thing about Minnesota's system is it has historically been very accurate from the initial counts. The only reason Franken has even gotten with in as close as he is is those ballots suddenly appearing out of now where. I don't 200 new ballots popping up this far out.

The Alaska GOP only have themselves to blame for the loss of that seat. They should have forced him off the ballot to blunt the bleed.

Bloomberg's efforts to get re-elected continue - now costing the City $20 million for teacher "performance" improvements. in a world where standardized tests keep getting easier and easier, it's foolish to be paying teachers for just doing their jobs.

This is why "merit pay" has problems in NYC - how do you gauge "merit?"

Certainly, as every teacher in the business will tell you if you ask, the tests have become easier. Also, Bloomberg held back a large group of students in 2004-5 when he was pretending to be interested in ending "social promotion."

In reality, both of those items have made it appear as if students are doing better when national test scores do not demonstrate the same.

Give-aways to the UFT are just one of the ways Bloomy is looking to get re-elected...
