When does Patterson get thrown over board??? HERES HOW, Levy enters this race which gives Cuomo an into the Dem primary. Levy then leaves Gov race taking the AG spot or an I.O.U.. (C then beats P) Cuomo dose not need another Carl McCall problem. Cuomo dose not and the Dem’s do not need a split at their state convention. Obama asked Patterson to get out but he won’t. Too much Governor “swag” is at hand for Governor position to give up the spot. Sources say Patterson is staying in for this fight. So goes the theory of Levy getting into this race to give Cuomo a reason to jump into a primary. (Cuomo gives…He can do it so I can do it also answer…good for the party to have a primary etc…) IF…Levy dose not get into this race (Which he will) – Dem’s can self implode with NYC Dem’s pulling for Patterson which is the weighed vote at the convention, those are the votes that Cuomo needs to become Governor. Meanwhile, Lazio just keeps on strutting his stop spending, tax cutting pledge and points fingers to the most dysfunctional state government in America…Albany. I truly believe that with a NYC Cuomo vs Patterson fight brewing in NYC & no love for the Albany dysfunction crowd – That suburbanites and rural voters can decided this year’s statewide elections here in New York. That is to say….IF….conditions remain the same as today and Levy NOT in the race. Imagine candidates running around above the Westchester County lines. If this is the case, expect Lazio to live full time in Long Island, Westchester and milking cows upstate…(milking cows was pun)...I live in the Adirondacks so Lazio will be riding snowmobiles and be using a chainsaw. P.s.....I think a pointed story of the same words more or less is out there, but clearly someone else has to enter this race (Who ever that is) to have Cuomo enter. Although - Many clearly would let this play out just a little while longer for morale of the GOP grass roots & troops within the party. Chairman Cox should remember - Former GOP Chairman Mondello made a pick in the 23rd Congressional race a few months ago which turned into disaster for the NY-GOP. In fact, in doing so the NY-GOP proved again that it can be a disaster to it's self while at the same time making a joke of the National GOP level. Further, it is NEVER good for the NY-GOP & it's current leadership to have a full time lobbyist who has backed Dem's in the past, give advice to a statewide GOP Candidate such as Congressman Rick Lazio to leave a race. (If....in fact the GOP had Al D do this) Think about it, Al D'Amato giving advice (On behalf of GOP?) to a running statewide candidate? Clearly the NY-GOP and Conservative educated base wants nothing to do with the NY-GOP of the past and those who help bring her down in this state. While Erie County Executive Chris Collins is an all around good guy with a proven track record in Erie County - His pick of "Consultants" speak volumes about his current campaign and the team he picked to surround him. The campaign has yet to bring Chris out to meet many of the leaders of the party, thus many are starting to fall in line with Lazio. (Many endorsements thus far). Rick is advising all on his Facebook of his current travels which are non stop across that state. In short, Lazio is working the State and receiving press and Collins is not. Still time for Collins to get his word out, Yes. For the State Chairman to make a decision on selection , I say respectfully No, at least for the benefit of the Party faithful. I am NOT taking sides of either candidate right now. BUT to clearly close down the "open system" while candidates are working to obtain support of the grass roots level is wrong. It can become another disaster like that of the NY-GOP's recent 23rd CD race in the North Country. BTW, much focus to remain on the State Senate seats or the NY-GOP goes the way of Massachusetts, that is one party rule and NY becomes an official banana republic. I don't see gay marriage opposition as what should be a "Republican issue." These types of issues have been "Republican" in the past and have been, in total, electoral losers in NY State and city. It would be much better to let the pastors on both sides of the aisle fight this one out and have the GOP focus on fiscal issues first and foremost. This is especially true at a time in America's history where "the economy" is clearly the biggest issue next to homeland security. In the end, the abandonment of the fiscal conservative issue on spending and taxation was what cost the GOP control of the Senate and the Governor's mansion. The losses had NOTHING to do with gay marriage or support for abortion rights. If you really want to help bring back "conservatism," Irish, lay off of the essentially non-partisan issues of gay marriage and abortion. At his age and with his history of campaign failure, he's better suited to stay as AG. Yet, knowing the Democratic Party, they'll run him anyway. In my view, Cuomo running by making Patterson step down - which he will have to do both internally and externally - will only keep the minority vote home on Election Day. As a Republican, I hope he runs because that would enable a much more clear path for our next Governor, Rudy Giuliani. Patterson would need to step down tomorrow and do so for, as Irish is saying, some positive reason, like an appointment. The longer he's there, the harder it gets to excuse his departure for anything but his poor poll numbers. My view is that Patterson refuses to leave (as it would be the end of his electoral political career) because Daddy Dearest will not allow him to ruin his lobbying business in that fashion. We can stop with the endless speculation about who will be the nominee if Rudy doesn't run. Rudy IS running. He will be the nominee. Donovan would be an excellent candidate for AG. I think he could clean Cuomo's clock (assuming Cuomo is smart and runs for reelection). Cuomo can beat Patterson in a primary, but he will alienate a large part of the democratic party base - again - in the process. That will make his chances of winning in November impossible. Do Cuomo's prospects change if Patterson steps aside? Perhaps, but why would he do that? What job could he be offered that would make him just step down and hand the nomination to Cuomo? The same is true nationally. The GOP, by losing all power, gets the advantage of being able to be idealistic without losing anything at all. Before, conservative idealism would have cost the GOP the State Senate. Now that appears not to be a concern. This is also true for the minority communities - especially in NYC. The GOP can gain support, over time, if an effort is made to reinforce that national Democrats don't care much about NYC and urban America. They talk a good game, but don't deliver. If Republicans get out in the New York City communities with that message, as it becomes a reality, there will be a chance to get thier support. As well, issues like school choice and job creation will be high on the list for many NYC voters. The ideal "party leader" would be someone who is good at organization, can get others to follow readily and can raise alot of money and, most importantly, is doing so for the better of the party/the issues. The latter is not often true and, in the real world, none of us should expect that to happen very often. We all do things for personal advancement in one form or another. The next Republican leaders should recognize that by empowering, encouraging and, most importantly, funding grassroots GOP development, they will both help the political cause the party is based on AND will improve their opportunities for personal advancement.
