Recall the story of the famous New York columnist from the early 1970s (I'm sorry, her name escapes me right now) who, after Richard Nixon won 49 states in the election of 1972 (inclusing New York) who wrote something to the effect, &quot;Funny. I don't know ANYONE who voted for Richard Nixon.&quot;

Of course she didn't.
