The left has found a new enemy: the Whole Foods chain.
I have visited the one in White Plains, New York since they carry my favorite energy drink in great abundance. To unenlightened types such as me, Whole Foods is just another big supermarket. (White Plains also has a Walmart.)
What did Whole Foods do to alienate their lefty customer base? Did they give money to a crisis pregnancy center or tell employees that it's okay to say, "Merry Christmas"? No.
In the Wall Street Journal (August 11), Whole Foods CEO John Mackey published an op-ed piece on healthcare reform.
Since Mackey opposes several liberal dogmas on healthcare reform, he outraged many liberals, who are now calling for a boycott of Whole Foods.
You can read about the outrage on the Wall Street Journal and a NY Times blog.
People can shop where they want and withhold their precious dollars from businesses they don't like. But the outrage reminds me of what I've called "the secularization of religious fanaticism."

JT made a wonderful point.
Many years ago, back when Dominos Pizza was one of the top delivery pizza places in the country, the founder of the establishment came out as someone who is pro-life. This raised hell among pro-abortionists and they mounted a campaign against Dominos.
Because of their efforts, today, Dominos Pizza is one of the top delivery pizza places in the country.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, these anti-Whole Foods peole will turn out to be fools.

Is there a protest today? August 21?
I thought I read some of these wacko libs plan on protesting Whole Foods in NYC today. Unfortunately I don't know if they plan on hitting just one. I'd have to believe the Union Square one will have its share of silly crazies.
Where is the Protest warriors when you need them.
