Longtime Queens Democratic Assemblyman Anthony Seminerio has been indicted on corruption charges by the U.S. Attorney.
Seminerio has often run with the endorsement of the Queens Conservative Party and has enjoyed friendly relations with many top Republicans in New York such as Sen. Alfonse D'Amato, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and Queens State Senator Serph Maltese.
Anyone know who is running against Seminerio, if anyone?

The candidate for the Republicans is ... well, Seminerio. Declination has passed, so I'm not sure there is much the GOP can do right now.

it's amazing, isn't it??
The amount of this type of behavior could make the most idealistic person cynical. I can't help but ask myself, "What is this guy, at this point in his life, going to do with all this money?"
I always thought that as a man ages he increases his level of wisdom. This action demonstrates otherwise and Seminerio has proven himself to be the complete opposite of a "wise" guy....

Folks are speculating that Brian Mclaughlin rolled on him as part of his plea deal proving there is no honor among thieves. Anticipate a special election in the srping of 2009. Any Republicans living in the 38th AD with legitimate roots in the community should who have ever wanted to run for office should start gearing up and should reach out to the Assembly Minority Leader's Office for an interview.

Since Seminerio would be the candidate for both parties, the seat would have to remain open long enough for a Special Election to be called. The only way I can see this seat going to anyone else is if there is a Green Party or Independence Party candidate in the district and the voters would prefer electing one of them over a criminal.

why would voters have a problem with a criminal in office, Danny? Isn't that a prerequisite for being employed in Albany?

Anyone know if for Council Member Thomas Vincent Ognibene lives in the 38th AD? He had a good showing against Council Member Anthony Como and has since endosred Como and Maltese. The 38Ad and 30CD definitely overlap. Ognibene would be very competitive.
