Mayor Mike raises our taxes 18.5% and only James Oddo has the balls to use the trade mark F-Bomb and say NO.
During the term limits fiasco, Mayor Mike ignores public outcry, strong arms the city council and with one swoop of the pen disenfranchises New York voters and extends term limits so he can get re-elected. The Independence Party should be ashamed for giving Bloomie the line. Maybe they haven’t read their own party platform for awhile or money causes amnesia!
Despite all the Mayor’s political shenanigans, the newspapers give tremendous praise and adulations like Bloomie was riding down Fifth Avenue on a donkey. The bought press wants us to believe that mayor Mike is the only one who can lead us through this economic downturn. But what they fail to report is that under fiscally brilliant Bloomberg the city's budget has increased from $42 Billion to $62 Mike Bloomberg, is addicted to creating government positions, craves giving pay increases to loyal minions and couldn't find a wasted dollar if it fell in his lap. He is the King of government and social spending, and there's no end in sight...
Mayor Mike buys off his opponents on the City Council like we would buy hemorrhoid cream at our local CVS. Mayor Mike uses the City Budget as a quid pro quo, gives expense money, capital projects and if you are one of the lucky ones holding your vote on a contentious issue, you might get a chance to use his Townhouse for raising campaign cash! The Manhattan DA should have enough to indict him for this but let’s not hold our breath.
According to City Hall insiders, Mayor Mike had his own Political Slush fund led formerly by Bill Cunningham and Haeda Milhaltsis, the mayor’s political minions. This slush Fund made Speaker Quinn’s Slush Fund look like a 9 year old child's piggy bank. Mayor Mike was an equal opportunity disburser. He gave funds to both Democrats and Republicans, hey just ask Simcha Felder, Domenic Rechhia, Marty Golden, Andrew Lanza... the list goes on.
Nobody blinks an eye when Mayor Mike agrees to deliver cash to the GOP in exchange for the party endorsement. Is that legal? Isn't that selling a Wilson-Pakula? If it were a judgeship for sale the media would standing on their heads trying to get the story out!
The Media is so scared of this Billionaire Bully they run and hide. They should be ashamed of themselves. Poor Walter Cronkite is turning over in his grave. I guess selling their journalistic soul for a few pieces of gold in advertising money has become routine.
As a blue collar worker who gets his hands dirty, I hate Billionaires who want to increase our taxes across the board and tell us we have to do more when growing government, mismanagement and budget deficits face our city. Perhaps if we weren't taxed so much we could enjoy a vacation or have some spare cash to take a weekend trip with our families or maybe Bloomberg can offer New Yorkers a weekend at his townhouse as an apology for raising our taxes.

Sadly, the mayor and his cohorts in the council believe city government needs more money when the budget is larger than all but two STATE BUDGETS! (and the Fed of course!)
Rather than cut out waste and I am sure there is plenty fat to chop off around the edges, he has suggested putting tolls on East River bridges and suggested congestion pricing because it works so well in London.
First, New York City includes MORE than just Manhattan. To put a tax on New York City residents to travel to another place inside the borders of the city is preposterous.
The congestion pricing is simply ridiculous. It will not alleviate traffic. It'll simply give this city more money to spend. And when it spends it, it'll want more money. So it'll then start increasing these tolls.
We have to stop thinking government - city government - needs more money. It needs consolidation. That's what it needs.
Stop by http://www.nyc.gov
On the left, you'll see a pulldown scroll for City Agencies. LOOK HOW MANY FRICKIN' AGENCIES THERE ARE!!!!
Do we need all of them?
Affordable Housing
Homeless Services
Housing - HPD
Loft Board
Public Housing - NYCHA
Then we have..
Women's Issues...
No men's issues
There's also
Tours
Tweed Court House Tour
For some reason it has to be separate.
It's just ridiculous that some of these agencies exist or that they are separate and cannot be consolidated.
Eight years ago, New York City did a lot with less than there is today. Because of the increased revenue during the happy Bush years, city government expanded when it shouldn't have.
BTW, twice there were comments that included the same hyperlink. A hyperlink that was seen before on another, if not other, threads. I have reached a point where I will delete hyperlink spam, Even if you are a regular here, the purpose of comments is TO COMMENT. Not spam. Use your brain and write something. You can include a link and discuss how it relates, but Urban Elephants is to flesh out opinions from those who visit and read here. It's not about redirecting traffic to other sites.
If what you write is interesting, it should give me a reason to check your link out. Think of what James Taranto does with Best of the Web - Today. His headlines are hyperlinks but you don't have to read the hyperlinks. BOTW-T is about reading Taranto's opinion, not the story he's writing about. So use that head of yours and give us your opinion.
