Bronx Republicans Pick Young Republican Allison Oldak for BP Race

The Facebook page of the Bronx County Young Republican Club reports that the Bronx GOP has nominated Allison Oldak to face incumbent Democrat Ruben Diaz Jr. in the race for Bronx Borough President.

Who is she? Miss Oldak is the Vice President of the Bronx County Young Republican Club. She is also a pro-life libertarian and a big Ron Paul supporter, as evidenced by her Meetup.com interests. (She also likes beer and hockey. Maybe she should challenge Diaz to a drinking contest.) I'm sure her support for Ron Paul will create controversy among some Republicans and pro-war Democrats, but I think it will only serve to draw attention to her campaign.

Nuts

I have no problem with a libertarian candidate. I have a big problem with a Ron Paul supporter for reasons I've posted her before.

Briefly, Ron Paul consorts with neo-Nazis and 9/11 "truthers" who are conspiracy theorists who think President Bush and his Administration destroyed the Twin Towers.

Nominate a Ron Paul supporter as the GOP candidate for Bronx Borough President? What does the Bronx GOP organization stand for, exactly? Neo-Nazis and 9/11 "Truthers"? That's nuts.

If the GOP can and should welcome social liberals (i.e. pro-choicers and pro-gay marriage supporters), then why can't we welcome Ron Paul supporters, anti-war advocates, protectionists, and isolationists? Whatever happened to the big tent?

As I recall, Paul raised a lot of money from different people. To paint ALL of his supporters with one broad brush is wrong and speaks of the same tactics that liberals often use against Republicans and conservatives. Remember guilt by association?

As I wrote before, I gave Paul $100 to protest high spending and taxes and a reckless foreign policy. I do agree that his campaign was embarrassment (given how poorly he did in the primaries despite having raised a lot of money).

Nearly every type of campaign or movement attracts extremists and unsavory types.

The civil rights movement had the Black Panthers and the Black Liberation Army (who murdered two cops in Harlem in 1971).

The unions had Jimmy Hoffa and Tony Boyle (who had rival Joseph Yablonski murdered). The pro-Israel movement had Dr. Baruch Goldstein, who murdered 29 Muslims at a mosque in 1994. (Some Jewish extremists think he's a hero.) The pro-lifers had extremists who murdered abortion doctors. The gays had ACT-UP, which desecrated St. Patrick's Cathedral in 1989, and threatened people who supported Proposition 8.

Ron Paul = Neo-Nazi Sympathizer
written by Quickjustice , July 07, 2009

I've posted on this topic here before, Behold. I've linked to several articles demonstrating that Ron Paul's connections to neo-Nazis and 9/11 Truthers aren't peripheral. He has spoken to neo-Nazi organizations, and 9/11 Truther organizations. For years, his newsletter spewed neo-Nazi propaganda.

Ron Paul is bad news. That doesn't mean all libertarian ideas are bad. It does mean that libertarians who are not neo-Nazis or Truthers should disassociate themselves from Ron Paul.

If Ms. Oldak is a fan of Ron Paul's she's either ignorant, willfully blind to the truth, a neo-Nazi, or a 9/11 Truther. It's a disgrace that the Bronx GOP has nominated her.

Do you think the Tea Party movement will be a benefit or a liability to Republican candidates in the 2010 election?
