Cap and Trade Coming Soon

If the Left has their way, the quest for a so-called "Green America" could destroy the economy in the United States.  This NY Post opinion piece outlines the specifics of the newly proposed Waxman-Markey bill...

THE House votes this week on the American Clean Energy and Security Act -- which claims to be about slowing global warming, but in fact is a massive tax hike that would vastly expand the federal government's power over the economy.

Indeed, the Waxman-Markey bill (as it's commonly called, after its two chief sponsors) would be the largest tax increase in world history, as well as transfer vast wealth from consumers to big-business special interests.

During last year's campaign, Sen. Barack Obama acknowledged: "Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket."

And the Obama plan was less pernicious than Waxman-Markey. It would at least auction off the ration coupons, giving the federal government revenues that could fund programs or reduce the debt. Waxman-Markey gives away 85 percent of the ration coupons to big corporations. So while American consumers are stuck with ever rising energy prices, special interests will make enormous windfall profits.

...this bill, if passed, will pile onto an already struggling American economy in a way that will quickly and profoundly affect every citizen of the U.S....

Prices for everything will rise, corporate competitiveness will decline and American workers will see hundreds of thousands of their good paying jobs move outside of our borders - something that is already happening at an alarming rate.

Democrats must be called on this now so that as the negative effects of this legislation take hold, the GOP will have the high-ground to overturn this poorly thought out piece of legislation...

read the above Wall Street Journal piece on this...

"Despite House Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman's many payoffs to Members, rural and Blue Dog Democrats remain wary of voting for a bill that will impose crushing costs on their home-district businesses and consumers. The leadership's solution to this problem is to simply claim the bill defies the laws of economics."

...for all the supporters of this bill and legislation like it, those of us who think this bill will kill American corporate competitiveness and lower the quality of life of every resident of the United States must make all these supporters eat their words over the next decade or two.

There are actually Liberals saying that this bill will actually "save Americans" resources by 2020. How hysterical, considering that countries like Spain, are seeing the direct opposite effect even with massive amounts of money invested into so-called "green technology."

it passed - barely...

In a triumph for President Barack Obama, the Democratic-controlled House narrowly passed sweeping legislation Friday that calls for the nation's first limits on pollution linked to global warming and aims to usher in a new era of cleaner, yet more costly energy.

The vote was 219-212, capping months of negotiations and days of intense bargaining among Democrats. Republicans were overwhelmingly against the measure, arguing it would destroy jobs in the midst of a recession while burdening consumers with a new tax in the form of higher energy costs.

The House's action fulfilled Speaker Nancy Pelosi's vow to clear major energy legislation before July 4, and sent the measure to a highly uncertain fate in the Senate.

...let's just hope that there are some people with brains in the Senate to stop this terrible piece of legislation from becoming law...
